Artists and Talent

D-Tektiv

Rich Tracy (D-Tektiv) is one of the newer members to the label. Rich brings some great diversity with his love of drum n bass. For those of you not in the know, Drum n Bass (or DNB) is a very fast, very smooth form of EDM that has some amazingly loyal fans. Here is Rich's self-submitted bio:

D-Tektiv (Rich Tracy), was born in the panhandle of Florida, but moved around as a kid with his father being in the Air Force. He now lives near Tampa, Florida. He can remember as far back as the 80s, while living around Detroit, Michigan, having a love for hip-hop & r&b/soul, etc...he found when he moved back to Florida, that he befriended people with many interests in different genre's of music, and embraced almost all of them.

In the early mid-90s he was exposed more and more to breakbeats, going to clubs in Tampa and Ybor City, which soon became one of his main loves in music. A few years later, the Drum N'Bass/Jungle genre was exposed to him, and thru tracks such as "Inner City Life" by Goldie and "Original Nuttah" by Shy FX ft.UK Apache - he fell in love with the energy and bass of the tracks, and started listening to DnB more so than breaks. Also at that time he was attending punk/hardcore shows, as he loved the energy of that sound as well.

Both of his parents played intruments in high school, and his grandfather owned and operated a music store in Flint, Michigan at one point. In addition to that, his grandfather played the saxophone, clarinet, and sang in jazz bands back in the 1930s & '40s. So he's always had music in his blood.
He still plays the bass guitar, in addition to producing dnb, etc. His influences are drawn from all over, and enjoys a variety of sub-genre's in the dnb sound

Liska

Liska is a very talented vocalist that provides great diversity to the label. She brings strong vocal skills including singing, rapping, and spoken word talent which blends great with what our label is doing. Here is her self-submitted bio:

Liska, otherwise known as " F.O.X." is an East Coast girl, born in the North, (NJ) raised in the South, (FLA). As a poet and a music lover at an early age, she decided to combine the two and start writing lyrics to instrumentals. Her influences came from many artists such as rappers like Tupac, Biggie, Nas, Left eye, Missy Elliott, and singers like Mary J. Blige, Aalyah, and Erykah Badu. By the time she was 15 years old she was recording her own demos on tapes with just a karaoke machine and a mic. Liska F.O.X. has a unique style mixing rap with singing melodies. Her dark voice, and hip hop style matches her persona, as well as her pop and lock, b-girl style of dancing. Liska grew up listening to booty music and hip hop, at the age of 18 she started go go dancing at nightclubs mostly to break beats, where she learned how to incorporate the three different styles of dance she knew and formed her own style. Liska is now working on new music to satisfy the masses of the breaks/ electro world with a hip hop twist. It is her love and passion to create music and to share it with the world.

Cipster

Ciprian (dj Cipster) joined IQ Sounds in early January of 2008. He bring an enormous amount of musical knowledge and structure to our team. Trained in classical piano and performing complicated pieces, he fills his music with very engaging elements that spark thought and peace. Here is his submitted bio:

Although the days of memorizing classical piano pieces and performing them in front of audiences are now long gone, Cipster (pronounced 'Sip-Stir') has found a new passion for perhaps, the greatest form of expression known to human kind - music, of course. Having heard the sound of breaks for the first time in early 2003, he hasn't stopped listening since. Influenced by the funkiest grooves that only breakbeat can offer, it was soon evident that he wanted to start producing his own tracks. Armed with a copy of FL Studio and years of studying music theory, Cipster began his quest to teach himself how to produce electronic dance music. In March of 2006, he picked up a pair of Numark CDXs and began the journey of learning how to mix. To date, he has incorporated vinyl into his setup, and seeks to leave his mark on the breakbeat culture, and the electronic dance music scene of Detroit and beyond.

Brian (dj Oragami) resides on the West Coast of Florida and joined IQ Sounds in September of 2007. He brings a very distinct production style that dabbles a bit in progressive, nu skool, and funky breakbeats. Here is his self-submitted bio:

Oragami was born and raised in Chicago, IL and soon moved to Florida, the breakbeat capital of the world! His interest in techno started at the ripe age of 15. He stayed heavy into the 'Rave Scene' and always enjoyed a higher state of consciousness =) After obtaining his first pair of Gemini turntables, he began a deeper journey into sound. With a resume boasting almost 6 years of mixing experience, and multiple local/private/internet events, his style has evolved from such influences as Dj Fixx, Dj Icey, Brad Smith, Infiniti, Ford, Sharaz & many more. This trend of breakbeat passion has lead to some new and exciting advances in his knowledge of electronic music. He has been producing since April 2006 and is quickly impressing those who hear his work. Oragami now resides in St. Pete, FL, where he continues to bring that Florida Funk into your mind and soul.

Motion

Shaun (aka dj Motion) hails from Charlotte, North Carolina and loves him some broken beat music. We asked Motion to tell us a little about himself in a short interview:

When did you start djing? About 3 1/2 years ago I taught myself how to DJ by reading online tutorials about beatmatching and eventually figured it out! Once I got the hang of it, I jumped on Orbital Grooves and here I am now.

When did you start producing? About 1 year ago I began getting the idea that I wanted to make my own tracks but only messed around a little. I've been hitting it seriously now though for about 6 months and plan to continue and keep making progress.

What made you decide on your moniker of 'Motion'? I had the hardest time trying to figure out a DJ "name" so one day I closed my eyes and tried to picture what music is to me, and thats what it is...motion. Plain and simple!

Who are your musical influences?
Pretty much everything I listen to influences me somehow, I've even started listened to Hip hop beats closer just to see if I notice anything I could learn from. For EDM though I would say the biggest influeces I have are C-Vaughn & J-virtue, DJ fixx, DJ Icey, Chris Marchese (force of habit / Discosynthetique) and I know there's more, but those are the main sounds I identify with the most.
